Auto Totem

Auto totem is the single most-used module in modern Minecraft PvP. Here's how it works, why it matters on crystal-PvP servers, and which clients ship the tightest implementation.

What auto totem does

Auto totem monitors your offhand slot and re-equips a Totem of Undying the instant the previous one pops. On paper the vanilla mechanic already lets a totem save you — but in a real crystal fight, the two-to-three tick window between totem pop and your manual re-equip is exactly when the enemy's next crystal lands. Auto totem closes that window to zero.

How anti-cheats detect auto totem

Auto totem produces a WindowClick packet with sub-human timing (often the very next tick after death damage). Bad implementations always swap on tick 0; good ones randomise between tick 0 and tick 2 and add mouse-move jitter to the inventory click. Krypton, Vape V4 and 4E all use randomised timing; older free clients don't.

Best auto totem modules

Krypton — DonutSMP-tuned, best under Donut's anti-cheat.

Vape V4 — best on Hypixel-style Watchdog networks.

4E — great for crystal PvP arenas.

Meteor / Rise — free and functional, fine on lax servers.

Tuning auto totem

Set the delay range to 1-3 ticks. Enable inventory-open detection so it doesn't fight your own inventory click. On DonutSMP, enable the anti-window-lag option — Donut throttles WindowClicks and a naive auto totem loses swaps.

Auto totem beyond crystal PvP

Not just for end-crystal fights — auto totem saves you from lava buckets, TNT griefs, fall damage, wither skulls and mob damage in anarchy. Any client running on any 1.21 server benefits from having it toggled on.
